The Importance of Vitamin D and Sunscreen

It is vital for our health to get a certain amount of Vitamin D daily, but so many of us overdo it in our many years leaving us looking leathery, wrinkly, and aged. Vitamin D is crucial to absorb calcium and promote bone growth. Too little calcium and vitamin D can cause soft and brittle bones, leaving them fragile and misshapen. There are other health reasons why Vitamin D is important such as protection from heart disease, prostate, colon, and breast cancers, and even mental illnesses such as depression, but the sun's UV rays are also very dangerous for our skin's health. Too much sun exposure causes age spots which can cause cancer. The sun is responsible for most of the wrinkles and age spots on our bodies. Actually the color we get from the sun or tanning bed can accelerate the effects of aging which in turn make us a higher risk for skin cancer. It is very important to get 200IUs daily up to age 50, 400IUs from 50 to 70, and 600IUs daily for those over 70 years old. We should sit in the sun for about 20 minutes daily without using sunscreen, but this is about all it takes to get the necessary amount of the D vitamin. In the winter months we do need to use a supplement to make sure we are getting an optimal amount. Sunscreen is extremely important to put on our skin daily, even in the winter months. The wind and sun can even be harmful to our faces in the cold months. Wind chapped skin can be protected with sunscreen, as well. Even on a cloudy day, when we don't think it is possible to overdo it, we need sunscreen. Some of the worst sunburns happen on a cloudy day. Sunscreen is the most important anti-aging skin protectant. The ozone layer is depleting so therefore we aren't as shielded from harmful UV rays.  We need an additional protectant. Even some of the natural oils I have talked about previously, such as coconut oil, have a natural sun protectant when used on the skin. We obviously want to refrain from using those harmful chemicals on our bodies which most sunscreens contain, which is why we need to only use the organic, all natural sunblocks and sunscreens on the market. In order to keep our young skin and protect it from premature aging, blotchiness, brown spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer this is a very important part of our daily beauty regimen.

Omega 3's and Keeping That Youthful Glow

Did you know that when it comes to head to toe healthy skin, what we put in our bodies is just as important as what we put on our bodies? Omega 3 fatty acids have been known to prevent heart disease and help relieve joint aches and pains, stabilize blood sugar and cholesterol levels and boost immunity among many other internal benefits, but omega 3's are also vital for our skin health and keeping that youthful glow we all want to hold onto! Tuna, salmon, white fish and sardines have a high source of Omega 3's, as well as, walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, anchovies and egg yolks. There are actually 3 different types of Omega 3's (ALA, EPA, & DHA) but it is crucial to get all types in our diets; 4000 mg total per day. Doing so will keep us healthy from the inside out and improve our appearances greatly. There are many dangers of being deficient in this essential fatty acid which take a toll on our bodies and over all health, resulting in an aged, tired appearance. This is something our body can't produce on its own, so it has to be ingested by diet or supplementation. Getting enough omega 3's will help clear up and prevent skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, dryness, acne and wrinkles. Increasing our Omega 3's is an important step toward healing the skin. It helps to normalize skin lipids and prevent dehydration in the cells. The benefits of Omega 3's are abundant and a vital part of keeping a vibrant glow and for our over all skin health!

Why Vitamin C is Vital for Skin Health

Vitamin C is one of the ingredients that is absolutely crucial to have healthy young skin. High concentration vitamin C can do wonders. It is loaded with antioxidants which fight cancer and decrease cell damage, and it plays a vital role in the body's natural collagen synthesis. It is very common to be deficient in the C vitamin. Many people do not get enough in their diet, so in this case, you can up your intake by adding a supplement and even using anti-aging organic beauty products topically, which also contain vitamin C . This is a key ingredient found in anti-aging products, as it can help heal damaged skin by increasing collagen production which helps to reduce the wrinkles, prevent the dryness, and get that youthful appearance back. Vitamin C also has many other roles in protecting our bodies and keeping us healthy. We all know it helps to strengthen the immune system which in return will prevent and fight off colds and illness, which than helps to keep our bodies strong and healthy from the inside out. So in order to keep our skin young and healthy naturally, we should make sure to consume about a 1000 mg daily with diet and/or supplementation. The foods that have the most vitamin C include oranges and other citrus fruits, guavas, berries, kiwis, fresh broccoli, peas, tomatoes, kale and yellow bell peppers. Too much can be harmful, though, due to the diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps it can cause. So while high doses of it is great for our skin health we do not want to put our bodies in jeopardy by worsening iron overload and damaging body tissues. The approved upper limit according to nih.gov would be 2000 mg daily. So this would be a safe number to use when deciding how much to ingest when eating or taking supplements!

The Benefits of Drinking Wine

Getting plenty of resveratrol is extremely important in keeping our bodies and skin young and healthy! This is a natural phenol which is produced by natural plants which act in response to injury or when the plant is being attacked by bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol is typically in the skin of grapes but can also be found in other berries. One of the main ingredients of red wine is grapes, which means a healthy amount of wine can benefit us greatly! It has disease fighting and anti-aging powers. It is full of antioxidants and aids in keeping us healthy and young! Resveratrol can diminish insulin resistance which is what leads to diabetes. It can prevent blood clots, clogged arteries, and lowers blood cholesterol which causes heart disease. It can keep cancer cells from growing and spreading fighting off disease. Resveratrol is even known to be powerful enough to diminish brain damage by as much as 40% caused by stroke. All these things put stress on our bodies which put stress on our skin and contributes to our diminishing youth and aged appearance. So getting an optimal amount of resveratrol is important for our health. It will greatly contribute to keeping our skin young and healthy naturally. So go ahead and have that glass of wine! Obviously moderation is key, but a healthy amount is healthy for your entire body. For those non-wine drinkers and those who aren't big on berries, you can get your daily dose by taking a resveratrol supplement in pill form and you will benefit the same.

Dry Brushing and It's Amazing Benefits

I love to dry brush before a shower anytime I think about it. It is so invigorating and I just love the immediate refresher my body feels! There are said to be many benefits from using a dry brush on the entire body, but there is a certain technique. The skin is the largest organ in the body but also the last to receive nutrients and the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency. I have been dry brushing for several months and I feel an immediate difference every time. It will rejuvenate the nervous system by stimulating the nerve endings in the skin. Somehow it manages to be relaxing and energizing all at the same time! It improves our pores by helping the skin absorb nutrients and gives a more even distribution of fat deposits. I have noticed my buttock region is a little tighter and more toned than before which is a wonderful benefit alone. It exfoliates removing the dead skin cells and it stimulates our lymphatic system and improves circulation. Dry brushing helps shed the dead skin cells and encourages cell renewal. The benefits are amazing for the five minutes this takes to do! When purchasing your brush, it is best to use a natural bristle brush. I personally use one with a handle but they make them without, as well. You should always put a little pressure on the body and use long, sweeping motions toward the heart. This is best for the lymphatic and circulation system. You need to be very gentle around the breast and genital regions as they are sensitive areas. I typically start at my feet and work my way up always going toward the heart.  The skin afterwards should be pink in color for a few minutes. You will feel immediately revived and become addicted to dry brushing as I have!

Why We Should Ditch Our Old Make-up and Go Organic

I am all about using natural products as much as possible. I want to keep healthy young skin naturally. There are so many unhealthy and harsh chemicals in all of our daily necessities that it is scary when you think about all the damage we are causing. We use moisturizers to help soften and nourish skin, but so many products temporarily moisten and in the long run they dry skin out and cause premature aging. We are really damaging our skin with these products. How about us women and the cosmetics we use daily. I love my makeup! I enjoy getting ready and making myself look pretty. There are wonderful all natural makeup products as well. There are even fun bright eyeshadow and glitters made up from mineral power rather than petrochemicals that are completely safe to use. You can get foundation, powder, mascara, liners, lip color and all the products for your makeup bag that are made only from organic substances; no artificial fragrance or colors, no parabens, sulfates, and no toxic chemicals. All these things are feeding the free radicals and aging our skin, contributing to breakouts and blemishes, and helping us lose our youthful glow. The more of this we put on our face, the more makeup and cover up we need due to the damage it's causing. More the reason to go organic! I promise your skin will thank you and you will be amazed how well your skin will look after changing your beauty regimen and going organic.

Why It's Best to Use All Natural Products and Oils

One of the best things we can do to keep our skin young and healthy is to use natural products, whether it be lotions, soaps, sunscreens or make-up. There are hundreds upon hundreds of skin care lines on the market, but to use something that is naturally derived with organic ingredients rather than chemicals is so important for not only our skins health, but also our internal health. Everything we put on our body gets absorbed and we need to be taking care of the skin, our largest organ and protective barrier. A staple that is very important for me to keep on hand, especially in my bathroom so I can use it after I shower, is natural oil. I love to try organic oils of all sorts. Many are safe to ingest and can be used in cooking and on salads. They are healthy for our interior and exterior bodies. They keep our skin nourished with vitamins, they provide a natural sunscreen and many have antioxidants and fight off the free radicals which contribute to the aging process due to cellular damage. These oils help restore skins elasticity and they have healing properties to help with skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis. These oils are able to penetrate the skin giving benefits much deeper than the skins surface. I could go on and on about all the wonderful things of natural organic oils. I currently use apricot seed oil after a shower, but I also have used the many other great oils such as avocado, coconut, olive, sweet almond, jojoba, and argan oil. It is something that I will forever keep in my purse and my bathroom. I will continue to use it on my children and my own skin daily. There are absolutely zero harsh chemicals making them safe to use any time needed and on any age person. I have been using natural oils in place of lotions for many years and I have no plans to discontinue. I love how soft and healthy it makes my skin. My face looks better than ever. My skin health is amazing. It has helped get rid of scars and other skin problems I have had in the past. All natural is the way to go and your skin will look and feel great. I have recently found a company that produces organic vegan 100% natural skin care products. It's called Happy Skincare. They have oils, lotions, deodorants, cleansers, serums, and toners of all kinds! You will be in love with this company once you try the products.
